PDFVault — Terms of Service
Welcome to PDFVault. By downloading, installing, or using the PDFVault application (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the App.
The App is developed and operated by Derivative But Smart LLC ("we", "us", or "our"), a limited liability company registered in Maryland, United States.
1. License Grant
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the App on mobile devices owned or controlled by you, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes, in accordance with these Terms and the usage rules established by the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
2. User Data and Privacy
Your documents remain yours: All document processing — including scanning, image enhancement, OCR (text recognition), local AI summaries, Q&A, and sensitive data (PII) redaction — occurs locally on your device. We do not operate servers that receive, process, or store your documents. We have no access to your files.
Loss of Data: Because your data is stored strictly on your local device, deleting the App, losing or damaging your device, or failing to create backups may result in permanent loss of your documents. You are solely responsible for backing up, exporting, and securing your files.
3. Optional AI Features and One-Time Download
The App includes optional on-device AI features (e.g., smart filename generation, chat with documents, semantic search). To use these features, the App must download public, open-source AI models from Hugging Face's hosting servers. This is a one-time download. No document content is ever sent over the network during this download or during subsequent use of these features.
4. Monetization, Payments, and Upgrades
The App is free to try with a limit on vault slots and features. A one-time purchase of a Lifetime Pro license unlocks unlimited access. All payments are processed securely through Apple's App Store or Google Play, and verified using RevenueCat. Refunds are subject to the policies of the respective app stores, and we cannot directly process or issue refunds.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:
- The App will be completely free of errors, bugs, or interruptions.
- The automatic PII (Personally Identifiable Information) detection will suggest all sensitive details for redaction. Redaction suggestions are an aid only; you must review every page yourself before sharing documents.
- The local AI models will perform identically or at high speeds on all device hardware.
6. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DERIVATIVE BUT SMART LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR USE, INCURRED BY YOU, WHETHER IN AN ACTION IN CONTRACT OR TORT, ARISING FROM YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE APP, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
7. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Maryland, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal actions or proceedings arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Maryland.
8. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
