Documents you mark as private are stored in a separate area of the app, hidden from the system Files app and protected by Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. You can also add a password to individual PDFs.

Everything PDFVault does with your documents — scanning, text recognition, redaction, search, summaries — runs on your device. The app doesn't upload your files, doesn't require an account, and works in airplane mode.
The optional Privacy Brain features use small AI models that are downloaded once from Hugging Face, a public model-hosting service. There are up to three downloads: a language model (~350MB) for naming, summaries, and chat; a vision add-on (~250MB) for reading page images; and a compact embedding model (~35MB) for natural-language search. Only the model files travel over the network — your documents and scans are never part of any download or upload. After the download, all AI features run fully offline. AI features are optional: you can delete the models anytime in Settings, and the app works without them.
